City of Justin General Election Candidate Profile

Meet Ryan Stevens – Candidate for City Council, Place1
Election Day: Saturday, May 3, 2025

What is your personal and professional background, and how has it prepared you to serve on the Justin City Council?

I am a husband of 23+ years, and a father of two beautiful adult children (one lives here in Justin, and one lives back in Washington State).  My family moved to Justin (and to Texas) in May of 2023, and we couldn't be happier.  Justin is similar in many ways to the towns both my wife and I grew up in during our formative years, which was a primary factor for choosing Justin as our new home.

Professionally, I’ve been in the Ecommerce space for the better part of 15 years, either selling to, or working for Amazon.  In that time, I’ve watched the rapid transition for traditional consumer behavior to the new age of all online, all the time.  Many correlations between the change we’ve all experienced in the retail landscape and the rapidly changing landscape of small, closeknit communities such as Justin.

Old Town Justin is a vital part of the city’s character and history. What are your thoughts and plans for revitalizing and preserving Old Town Justin while encouraging thoughtful growth?

Like with many towns in the area that have seen dramatic, and sometimes rapid growth, maintaining the charm of Old Town is key to preserving what makes Justin special.  A key to this is working to make Justin, especially Old Town, an attractive destination for businesses to plant roots in order to draw more folks to our town.

As Justin continues to grow, how will you help the city maintain its small-town charm and close-knit community feel?

Justin does a good job of this already, so partly just continuing what we’re doing.  From simple things like the community Christmas tree lighting to small motor ride around Justin, these are the types of activities that bring visibility to the unique affinity the citizens of this town have for our community.  Especially as we bring new businesses into our community (whether Old Town, Justin Town Square, etc).

What are your top three priorities for Justin over the next 3–5 years, and how do you plan to accomplish them?

Economic development must be the top priority, and really is the driver for most other priorities.  Government at any level can’t sustain itself simply by taxing it’s citizens until the coffer is dry.  Bringing in businesses that will draw traffic from outside our community will be vital to fund future projects (road improvements, ball fields, entertainment, etc).  Our citizens can’t solely bear the burden.

As our population grows, so will the need for more services, such as police and fire.  Continuing to expand our revenue base will help our city prepare for the inevitable expansion to these necessary services.

In addition to new businesses, and the corresponding tax revenue, outside revenue generated by activities, such as tournaments or concerts, will be required to fund future projects (restoration of the Old Town buildings, road improvements, etc).

5. How do you define integrity and transparency in local government, and what specific actions will you take to ensure both?

I’m a firm believer that government at all levels should be more transparent, especially with regards to spending money.  The citizens of our community put faith in their elected officials to spend the TAXPAYERS money wisely, and in the best interest of the members of the community.  I will work on behalf of our community to ensure the funds we’ve been entrusted with are spent wisely and on services designed to benefit our town.
