LOCAL BUSINESS
Gene Pike Middle School~Opening this Year
Gene Pike's new building is quite a standout! The blend of modern design with functional spaces like the media center, athletic areas, and outdoor learning zones must be very exciting for the students and staff. The emphasis on safety is also crucial, especially in today’s environment. It's great to see a school that balances innovative features with a focus on creating a secure and dynamic learning environment. I bet the students are thrilled to be part of this new chapter!

LOCAL HISTORY
Justin Early Education
The first school in Justin was established by Perry Harmonson north of Trail Creek in 1883. This original building, however, was destroyed by a tornado on May 15, 1896.
In response to the destruction, the community rebuilt the school, and in 1902, the town approved a bond package of $2,000 for a new school building (The Dallas Morning News, November 4, 1902, p. 12).
Further developments occurred in 1905 when Dr. Thomas Allen spearheaded the construction of a new preparatory school, Pennington College. The school was later sold to the trustees of the Baptist Church of Justin in 1913. The church expanded the complex with additional buildings in 1948, 1952, and 1957.
Today, a part of the old Pennington College still stands as "The Country Abbey," which is now used as a wedding and special event venue.

SCHOOL NEWS
Back to School Week
August 14 is the start of a new school year which can impact the whole community, not just families with school-aged children. A new year is filled with excitement and potential. Fresh school supplies and new clothes set the stage for a fresh start, and this is often when kids forge new friendships and embark on new learning adventures.
Increased traffic, school bus routes, and the reactivation of school zones are all things to keep in mind. It’s a good time to adjust travel plans, allow for extra time in your commute, and stay vigilant in school zones. Being aware of these changes helps everyone navigate the back-to-school season more smoothly!
If you have items to donate or need a helping hand don’t forget Justin has an awesome resource available at The Community Clothes Closet.
