LOCAL HISTORY
Where is the Justin Train Depot Today?
One of the most iconic images of Justin, often featured in murals, is the historic Justin train depot. While the depot itself no longer stands, its legacy lives on through repurposed pieces found in various locations.
In 1986, the depot was torn down due to the cessation of passenger service and the decline of local depots, leaving the Justin depot unused. However, it hasn't disappeared completely. If you look closely, remnants of the depot can still be found. For instance, a wall in the Justin Boots store, located in the back room near the kids' corral, is said to have come from the depot.
Moreover, a significant portion of the depot has found a new home in Austin. At a place known as "The Feed Station". The owner has creatively reused several elements from the depot. Including the exterior brackets, front door, ticket counter, and bay window counter, to give his store a unique touch of Justin's history. This thoughtful preservation allows a piece of Justin history to continue connecting our town’s past with the present.
