LOCAL HISTORY
Spooky Spotlight: The Haunted Bridge Near Justin
Just 14 miles—about a 23-minute drive—from Justin lies a haunting relic: a bridge built in 1884 that once connected the ghost town of Alton to Denton. This eerie location is rumored to be a hot spot for ghostly sightings and mysterious phenomena, particularly the legend of the “Goatman.”
According to local lore, this unsettling figure is said to haunt the bridge and surrounding woods, allegedly pulling those who ignore warnings into the waters below. While many tales have circulated, some have been debunked—such as the story of a person hanged from the bridge.
Though no longer open to traffic, the bridge has been protected since 1988 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, ensuring it will remain a part of our local history for years to come.
