THE DIGEST
Presidents Day, Chick-fil-A Remodel, Egg Hunt Community Partnership, and Special Election for Charter Amendment

Heads Up: Government Offices Closed for Presidents Day!

On Monday, Feb. 17, government offices will be closed in observance of Presidents Day! While we often think of it as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, it's actually a holiday honoring George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Originally called Washington's Birthday, it was first observed in 1885 and later moved to the third Monday in February in 1971.

While USPS, banks, and stock markets, and the school students and staff take the day off, most restaurants, grocery stores, and retail shops will be open.

Chick-fil-A at Champion Circle Closing for Remodeling!

As of Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, the Chick-fil-A at Champion Circle near Tanger Outlet will be closed for three weeks for remodeling. But don’t worry, you can still satisfy your Chick-fil-A cravings in Argyle during this time!

Rumor has it, they’ll be bigger and better than ever when they reopen—so stay tuned!

LOCAL HISTORY
Reviving History: Krum Depot Restored, A Reminder for Justin’s Heritage

In 1886, the young town of Justin, along with neighboring towns like Ponder and Krum, was significantly impacted by the decision of the GC & SF Railroad to build a depot. For Krum, the depot became a major boon when it was constructed in 1887. L.L. Finley, a local landowner, even sold a portion of his farm for its establishment. Originally a small depot town, Krum’s growth far exceeded expectations, transforming into the community it is today.

The Krum depot, much like our own Justin depot and others built around the same time, stood proudly near the train tracks. Over time, it was relocated behind a local feed store, but this past week, with the help of the Krum Heritage Museum, the depot was moved back to its rightful place next to the train tracks, with plans for restoration on the horizon.

As we celebrate Krum’s preservation of its history, we can only hope that Justin will continue to honor and retain the rich history that makes our town unique. Perhaps this will be discussed in next month’s city council meeting with Old Town Justin on the agenda.
