Have You Heard About the Justin Heritage Foundation?
If you love history and want to help preserve the unique charm of Justin, you’ll definitely want to know about the Justin Heritage Foundation! This 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is on a mission to preserve, protect, and visually reflect the rich history of Justin so that future generations can appreciate the early North Texas way of life.
One exciting project they’re working on is the restoration of the Gaston House—an iconic historical building you’ve probably spotted while driving to Ace Hardware or Justin Elementary. This 1900-era home is an important part of our community's heritage, and the foundation is collaborating with the city to decide the next steps in preserving it for years to come.
Want to get involved? Visit their website to learn more about the foundation and how you can become a member. Plus, keep an eye out for their upcoming projects! The foundation is planning some fun events like a monthly newsletter, a Casino Night, and even an ice cream social fundraiser. It's a great opportunity to get involved, support local history, and meet others who care about preserving Justin’s past.
Whether you donate, attend events, or join as a member, you can be part of keeping Justin’s history alive! Check out the foundation’s website for all the details and how you can get involved.

LOCAL HISTORY
Tornado History: Justin's 1896 Devastation
In North Texas, severe weather is no stranger—and Justin is no exception. Over the past 75 years, the area has been hit by a total of 40 tornadoes within 30 miles. The most devastating of these struck on May 15th, 1896. This powerful tornado flattened homes, businesses, and even the local school. It was so intense that it twisted steel train tracks! The tornado’s path stretched 13 miles from Justin to Ponder, leaving destruction in its wake. Tragically, two lives were lost in Justin alone. That day marked one of the deadliest tornado outbreaks in Texas history, claiming a total of 78 lives.
