LOCAL HISTORY
A Little History: The Story Behind Dish, Texas
For those of us who are fairly new to the area, the name of our neighboring town to the north—Dish—might seem a bit unusual. Ever wondered how it got its name? Well, here’s a fun piece of local history!
Did you know that Dish was once called Clark? But the name change to Dish didn’t happen by accident. In fact, it was all thanks to a unique deal with Dish Network (officially EchoStar Communications Corp). Back in 2005, the company offered 10 years of free satellite TV service to the residents in exchange for changing the town’s name to Dish. The deal was a win-win—Dish Network gained some publicity, and the residents of the small town got free TV for a decade!
The name change was approved by the city council, which at the time consisted of only two members, and the Mayor, Bill Merritt, who agreed to the proposal in hopes of attracting more residents to the area.
While there have been discussions about possibly changing the name back to Clark or choosing a different name, no official move has been made yet. For now, Dish remains the town’s official name, forever linked to its quirky history and unique deal with Dish Network.

DO SOME GOOD JUSTIN
Do Some Good, Justin
Apollo Support and Rescue is doing amazing work for our local pets in need, and they always welcome your support! Here’s how you can help make a difference this season:
Donations Needed:
Purina One dog food (Rice and Chicken flavor, adult and senior formulas)
Blankets and towels (new or gently used)
Shoes (for a fundraising effort)
They also have a big red dumpster on-site for collecting metal, so if you’ve been collecting metal and have 10 items, bring them by and drop them off for a good cause!
PET OF THE MONTH: (One of the shelter’s newest additions)
Iggy – An 8-year-old Elkhound mix who is absolutely stunning! He’s great with kids, other dogs, and people, making him an ideal family companion. He would be an incredible dog to highlight for adoption!
If you can’t donate, consider helping by spreading the word about Iggy or other pets in need of loving homes. Let’s continue to support our local rescue community and make a difference together.
Help Stock the Shelves This Season!
The City of Justin is hosting a food drive to support the Justin Community Food Pantry, and need your help to ensure no family goes hungry this holiday season. They are collecting non-perishable food items to restock the pantry and make sure everyone in our community has access to the food they need.
You can drop off your donations at Old Town Christmas on Saturday, December 14, from 12–6 p.m. Let’s come together to support our neighbors and make this holiday season a little brighter for those in need.
Your generosity will make a huge impact—thank you for giving back to our community!
