THE DIGEST

Cooper Lutkenhaus
Super Cooper: Justin’s 16-Year-Old Track Star Makes History
Northwest High School junior-to-be Cooper Lutkenhaus has officially put Justin, Texas, on the world track map. At just 16 years old, Cooper ran the 800 meters in 1:42.27 — the 4th fastest time in American history and the 18th fastest time ever in the world.
The record-breaking race took place at the USA Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where Cooper finished 2nd overall, earning a spot at the World Championships in Tokyo.
Known for his explosive finishing kick and cool-headed confidence, Cooper says the key is keeping the sport fun:
“As soon as things stop being fun, something’s going wrong. I just try to run my fastest and enjoy every race.”
From winning the UIL 6A state title as a freshman to racing — and beating — professionals, Cooper’s rise has been meteoric. Off the track, he’s a regular 16-year-old, catching up with friends, gaming, and soaking in Friday night football.
He’s grateful for the support from the community:
“Thank you for all the support from Northwest High and the people of Justin. Representing our town and Texas on the world stage is very special.”

Justin Farmers Market – Community, Fresh Finds, and Local Flavor
This past Saturday, the Justin Farmers Market was bustling with energy as neighbors gathered to shop, mingle, and enjoy a beautiful Texas morning. Nearly 40 local vendors came together, offering a little bit of everything — from crisp, farm-fresh produce and pasture-raised meats to homemade breads, sweet treats, and artisan crafts. The air was filled with the scents of baked goods and fresh herbs, making it almost impossible to leave empty-handed.
Beyond the food, shoppers browsed handmade soaps, natural skincare, seasonal décor, and unique gifts — each booth reflecting the creativity and talent of our community. It was the perfect place to stock up on weekly staples, discover something new, or simply enjoy a friendly conversation with a local maker.
If you missed it, you’ll have another chance soon — the next Justin Farmers Market will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 9 AM to 1 PM at 1911 Beef in Justin. Whether you’re a regular or it’s your first time, it’s always worth the visit. Come early for the best selection, bring your reusable bags, and soak in the small-town charm that makes Justin feel like home.
See our Facebook post for additional photos from this weekend’s market.

LOCAL HISTORY
The Justin Journal hit the road for a fun little adventure to Austin — all to check out the Feed Station, which proudly carries pieces of our very own old Justin Depot!
We were welcomed with open arms (and plenty of smiles), given the green light to roam around, snap photos, and soak in the history.
For those who didn’t know, our historic depot isn’t just in one spot — it’s actually scattered across a few places!
If you pop into the Justin Boot store, you’ll find a quirky little wall from the depot sitting right above a section that hasn’t been touched since the day it was taken out—yellow paint and all!
But here’s the cool part: a much bigger chunk of the depot has found a new home at the Feed Station in Austin. The owner cleverly combined parts from our depot with bits from another one in San Saba to create a space that’s bursting with Texas history.
As we shared in our July 22, 2024 newsletter: “Including the exterior brackets, front door, ticket counter, and bay window counter, the Feed Station gives a unique nod to Justin’s past while serving its present-day customers.”
So when you’re there, know that every vintage detail you see has a little piece of Justin’s story tucked inside it. History never looked so good! See our Facebook page for additional photos.
